I use very few programs - Photoshop, Illustrator, Nikon Capture, InDesign for an occasional lay-out.
I got tired of the commercial programs changing every few months and getting more and more bloated.
Some of those programs have now became quite monstrous.
I think that time needed for learning a new software package is better spent improving programming skills. Programming LANGUAGE is a better investment than most programs - although programming languages evolve, they do so slowly, in a logical manner, unlike commercial programs, prone to arbitrary changes of direction and irritating irrational jumps.
For web design and programming I use the excellent Open Source Notepad++, shown to me by my friend Richard.
