One big advantage of black-and-white imagemaking is that it allows - by reducing bandwidth (similar to text) - a much higher complexity, plus - with vector technology - complete precision of drawing and positioning.

But there are more big advantages, when adding monochrome laser printing - speed and facility of proofing = generating versions, low cost, ease of distribution.
